The first step is to recognize your own style by lining up a few of your favorite layouts (the ones that truly speak to you). Now, recognize the similar elements within each; the repeating of elements represents your core style. For instance, I love ribbon and you will see this in many of my layouts, but at a closer glance, you'll also notice that I frequently use label strips and tape measures. And what are these but a different take on ribbon? I also love collage, and it is especially gratifying for me to mix and match papers/elements from multiple CDs/Page Paks for an eclectic look. Just like living room decor benefits from pieces being from different collections, so does our artwork. It's what gives it "pop." For the layout above, Beautiful, I combined elements and papers from our new Bridal Pearls and Vanilla Dreams Page Paks in a formal portrait heritage layout. How fun to get multi-duty out of our stash! Instead of trying to force your design to fit a certain look, get double bang for your buck by repeating the things you do well and putting a new twist on elements and papers you have on hand. For instance, wedding paper doesn't necessarily need to be used in a wedding layout (most of our papers and elements are generic in nature, and it's the word art included that are more directed towards a specific theme). Really focus on your strong attributes and make a conscious effort to apply them to your pages in your own unique style. That's the beauty of this hobby - we each preserve the memories we love with our own touch of personality! Beth Ervin of CottageArts.net
