My husband's shirt clashes with the other colors in the photo. How do I selectively change the color of a portion of a paper or photo in Photoshop/Photoshop Elements?

Once you learn how to select certain colors and adjust them to your preference, a whole new world of image editing will emerge! Changing the colors in a paper to match a photo, or altering a photo to match the overall layout allows such artistic freedom. Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements have so many powerful functions that there are several ways of selecting a certain color and adjusting it. I will explain how to use the Selective Color Replacement tool in Adobe Photoshop (A similar command in Photoshop Elements is Enhance>Adjust Color>Replace Color).

First, open an image in Photoshop. In my sample, my daughter's shorts don't quite match the shirt. I would like them to both be the same shade of pink.

In the Photoshop menu bar, choose Select>Color Range. You will then see a box like this:

Be sure the top drop-down is set to Sampled Colors. Then you will be able to move your cursor over the color you want to change, and with the shift key pressed at the same time, continue to click on all the shades of the colors that you would like to change. You will be able to see what is selected in real-time in the Color Range box (anything in white). If you have selected a color by accident, you can choose undo from the edit menu and continue.

Once I have the selection that I would like to change, I can adjust the color by using the Hue/Saturation by choosing Image>Adjust>Hue/Saturation from the menu bar and using the slider controls to my preference.

Now my daughter is color-coordinated and this photo is ready to scrap!
