How did you make the Recent Imagery slide show on your 'Our Story' Page?

In a recent photography class I taught at a scrapbook retreat, I shared a slideshow of some recent favorite images/collages, which is also posted on our site. Adobe Photoshop has a great easy-to-use tool for making web gallery slide shows.

The hardest part is organizing all of your images into one folder. I kept adding more and more images (I know Mom...they are ALL my favorite, right?!). I made copies of these in another folder, so as not to harm the originals. Note: you need to name your images to be web compatible, such as without spaces.

Once you have your images selected and named for web compatibility, simply open Photoshop (I have CS3). Click File>Automate>Web Photo Gallery and a detailed dialog (below right) will open with everything you need to do. Follow the steps below, and feel free to go with the defaults on your first run.

  1. Select the gallery type (I chose Flash - Gallery 1).

  2. Select the folder where the images are saved.

  3. Select the folder where the gallery will be saved (I made a new folder).

  4. At the bottom of the dialog is an Options drop down for such features as copyright info, size of thumbnails and images (I down-sized mine to 400 pixels), colors of banners and links, etc. Customize as desired.

  5. Click OK and step away while Photoshop does the work.

  6. You can view the gallery in your browser when complete.

  7. If you need to make changes, delete the entire gallery folder and subfolders and start over.

  8. To post on a website, you need to copy the entire folder to a website. If you don't have a place to post, you can still view from your computer in your browser by clicking on the index.html file in the main web gallery folder Photoshop created.

  9. The slide show I selected has navigation tools in the lower right of the screen.

Enjoy...and share with family and friends!
