A TITLE incorporated into
your scrapbook page or digital art is a vital element to any
piece. The photos/art offer the story, the journaling supports
the photos and the title sets the stage for it all. A strong
title can take a ho-hum page and kick it over the top; a well
balanced title can improve the flow of an entire layout; and a
creative title can provide interest in an album full of the same
or similar photos.
Call me odd, but I am always looking for ways to incorporate new
title ideas into my pages in everything I do. A great place to
start is looking at books, magazines, billboards and television
advertisements in a different way. These items are proven to be
effective and eye catching, so if I use the same concepts on my
scrapbook pages I will be stay current with typography trends
and learn new techniques.
On that same note, I’ve
found that including a variety of products and techniques in the
creation of a title can further improve the appearance and
effect a title has. For example, if a single title word is
handwritten on the page it would create a certain effect; but if
I used that same title with a computer font it might create an
entirely different effect; and yet another effect entirely might
emerge if I used plastic, wood or metal letters for that same
title. Concept and placement alone are wonderful title tools,
but added with the shape, texture and dimension that can be
found in one of our
AlphaSets or digital
elements, your titles can
garner the attention they deserve. Below are some favorites:
Some photos just scream
out a title (like Jenn's page at left), while other images may
be more subtle (like mine). And then there are wordsmiths like
Donna (so love her page and title!) who always seem to come up
with the coolest prose. Creating a title that will grab the
viewer’s attention, pull them in, and entice them to read the
details of why the memory is special enough to be saved should
be our goal!
