CottageArts.net offers so
many fibers, ribbons, ties, and bows with a multitude of fasteners to attach all of
them; the possibilities are endless. The great part about digital
graphics is that you can keep adding without the bulk of real string or
ribbon (not to mention the cost effectiveness), as well as change the
color to mimic the feel you're going for. See the above layout
that demonstrates this concept.

It's a String Thing!
Ribbons, fibers, yarn...no
matter how you twist it, most scrappers (much like cats) have a
fascination with good old string. If you haven't experienced
"string fever," you are in for a great deal of fun with these
creative
string and fiber ideas!
Let's begin with a couple of common
objections I have heard over the years during my many rubber stamping
demonstrations...
"Ribbon
accents seem too difficult" - think again! There are so
many ways to use strings without ever having to tie a bow
(although bows are great, too). Text ribbon is one great
example of an easy place to start.
-
use text ribbon to emphasize the
story
-
use text ribbon to accent seasons,
birthday, or holiday pages
-
use text ribbon to add personal
flair to your page
"Ribbons seem
too cutesy or girly" - reconsider! Today's
trends offer many masculine options for fibers/ribbons. Try different widths, patterns, and textures of bold
ribbon and limit yourself to two or three colors to produce an
energetic page that won't feel too busy or girly.
-
use patterned or plain ribbon to
make a border
-
use patterned or plain ribbon to tie
a tag or other accent
-
use patterned or plain ribbon to add
divider tabs to an album
The most exciting part of using
ribbons, strings, and the like, is seeing your layout come alive
with personality. Whether you are a traditional or digital
scrapper, banish the thought that strings are only about bows and
become creative on your next layout using good old string.
