Patterned Paper Pizzazz
Using patterned
papers and mixing
and matching
stripes, dots, etc.
is all the rage in
both scrapping and
card making. The
greatest thing about
this is that there
are no rules, mix
and match everything
to create an
eclectic look. The
CottageArts Page
Paks are a great
place to begin,
since all of the
papers and
embellishments are
already coordinated
for you. Using at
least two pieces of
paper gives your
artwork depth and is
visually pleasing to
the eye.
It is usually best
to begin with the
lightest, least busy
paper as the base
and add busy or
darker papers to the
top. If the design
begins to get too
busy, cut the top
paper down and just
add a strip rather
than an entire
layer. This will
draw more attention
to the elements you
place on top of the
light paper, yet
still add a bit of
interest.
To create the sample
“Girlfriend” card
(left), I used the
In My Pocket Page
Pak download with Paint Shop Pro. Using
drop shadows on both
elements and papers
really will really
help accentuate your
card. I also chose
to highlight the
word “friendship”,
using a low opacity
paintbrush, to give
the card a bit more
personal touch. The
steps used to create
this card can be
transferred to
almost any
CottageArts Page Pak and image editor
with some minor
adjustments. Have
fun playing!
Steps to Create
Girlfriend Card
-
Open and then crop plaid background
paper to card
size. I chose
4.25x5.5 (1/4 the size of an 8.5x11 piece of paper).
-
Open and then crop Fun Talk background paper to same size. Paste or drag onto plaid background paper and move to desired position.
-
-
Begin placing
flowers beneath pocket layer until you
are pleased with
the arrangement.
Re-size some of them for variety.
-
Add, then crop, the letters
in the AlphaSet
to create the
word
“girlfriend”,
place on top of
pocket.
-
Add verse, brads
and ric rac elements to
top of pocket.
-
Add corner
stitching element to
bottom left
corner (need to flip or rotate).
-
Add denim ribbon
beneath pocket layer,
placing diagonally.
-
Highlight
“friendship”
using a low
opacity
paintbrush.
-
Add drop shadows
to all desired pieces. The pocket already has a very small shadow applied for you. I deepened the shadow on the pocket for more emphasis. It's all a matter of taste.
