When
and why did you start digital scrapbooking?
I
started digital scrapping five years ago because it was more
convenient than dealing with traditional supplies...bringing
them out and putting them all away. At the
time I was limited as to when I
could scrap, time was at a premium. I discovered that digital
layouts could be accomplished by spending a few minutes here and
there and I didn't have to deal
with all the supplies.
Is
there anything in your background that helped you?
Not really. My background
didn't include much experience with anything very technical. In
fact, I had successfully avoided all contact with computers
until my husband encouraged me to incorporate their use in
scrapping.
Do
you use tutorials or do you just go by instinct?
Recently I have begun using
tutorials but when I started there weren't many people doing
digital pages, so it was mostly trial and error on my part.
What's
the most meaningful layout you've ever created?
My most meaningful layout was
one I created in memory of my mother-in-law. It inspired an
album that I did for my husband's family and I believe it really
meant
a lot to them.
What
do you most hope to share with others through your scrapbooking?
I'd like to share who we are
and what we love...every day events as well as special moments,
so that future generations will know a bit about the people in
the pictures they see.
Where
do you get inspiration?
My inspiration comes from my
grandchildren and the heritage pictures that I love so much but
everything else is fair game. Beautiful sunsets, the clouds in
the sky, scenery while on road trips, anything of interest could
wind up on one of my layouts.
What
is your favorite aspect of scrapbooking?
My favorite aspect of
scrapbooking would be the photography and the ability to adjust,
correct or restore photos digitally. I am thrilled when I am
able to take a
heritage picture that is in
poor condition and restore it.
Do
you prefer to do single layouts or groups (albums)?
My preference would be two page
layouts.
First
the picture or the layout?
Most generally for me it is the
picture first but I have found myself taking pictures because I
already have a specific layout in mind.
Do
you take film or digital photos or both?
Digital all the way! I love
digital cameras and that instant gratification of previewing the
picture to see if we need to re-enact the moment! Oh yea...the
family loves when that
happens!
What
is your favorite photography tip?
My favorite tip would pertain
to lighting. My best photos are taken early in the morning,
later in the evening, or on a cloudy day.
What
do you most want to improve about your photography?
Right now I am trying to work
on producing a more natural look when photographing people,
rather than always having a 'posed' look.
Do
you print your layouts?
What size? What printer (if applicable)?
I usually do. I
prefer 8.5x 11 layouts that I can put in page protectors and add
to my albums. Right now I using an HP Photosmart 7760.
Do
your kids scrap too?
One of my daughters has begun
to show an interest, but not really.
How
long does it take you to make a layout?
The amount of time I spend on a
layout can vary from just a few minutes, to more time than I
care to admit to. If I start to feel like I am spending too
much time on it, I will take
a break and when I resume work on it I can usually finish up
pretty quickly.
How
does your family feel about your digital scrapbooking?
My children tease me, lovingly,
about the amount of time I spend at the computer but they enjoy
looking at the albums. On the other hand, my husband is
extremely proud of my projects
and very enthusiastic about sharing my work with others.
