Cool Color Palettes are Hip this Fall

Fall! Leaves change color and the weather gets cooler. Crisp apples and cider sit at roadside stands. It’s time for a sweater, a football game, a long walk. Orange and gold, rich reds, shades of green and brown come to mind. Today’s fall color trends include all of these and another delicious palette - shades of bright hues mixed with pale tones are all the rage this autumn. Whether you are shopping for clothes or snuggling in for an evening of scrapbooking; consider blues, pinks, purples and much more to evoke a fresh feeling of fall!

While we all own many traditional fall embellishments like brown paper bags, corrugated cardboard, pressed or printed leaves, twigs and more - try taking a detour from the obvious route. Look again at your supplies and if you started with leaves, pumpkins and gourds, see if you can think of new ways to use them with other images...or by simply changing their hues. Give an image of an Asian woman a fan made of leaves, replace wings on angels and fairies with colorful leaves or give a child an oversized leaf or pumpkin in their hand to carry. Paint your supplies on hand with washes of pale hues - this can be done traditionally or digitally.

Who says a traditional palette is the only way to define what fall colors are all about? For that matter, who says that leaves and ears of corn can’t be blue or purple? Here’s a toast to rule breaking, to developing a personal approach to choosing colors. Soft pastel or rainbow bright leaves scattered about your layouts or layered as a photo frame still feel like fall, even if the colors are unexpected!
