Happy Monday…Beth here! With autumn well under way in the northern hemisphere, my mind and heart start thinking holidays and I long to dig into my favorite winter kits… to record simple, everyday moments. No better time than the present (pun intended)!
Rain by Beth Ervin. Supplies here. Photo: SXCCall me a rebel, but I love the challenge of turning my holiday stash into an artistic opportunity by altering seasonal pieces into functional year-round pieces. Challenge yourself to pull out your so called “winter” kits and create a layout that works wonderfully NOW.
This is much easier than you may think; it’s just a matter of looking at your supplies differently to find new ways to use them. Begin by forgetting about all your papers and embellishments for a moment and focus on photos. They are what bring back a memory, make you smile or bring a tear to your eye. That’s exactly what you want to capture regardless of color or theme.
Here are a few ideas to get started…
-look for embellishments that will serve any purpose…pins, ribbons, fibers, beads, glitter, buttons and tags work great any time of year!
Lollipop by Tonya Regular. Supplies here. Photo: SXC-extend the creativity of your patterned papers by looking at them from an embellishment perspective, incorporating the non-seasonal portions of the designs into your layout
Blessings by Beth Ervin. Supplies here.-change hues of any papers or elements (or blend into background) to give them a different feel
Magical Moment by Patti Senter. Supplies here.-use more than one paper and play with different blend modes to create new, exciting designs
-look at shapes in new ways and do a little imaginary bending of their lines and curves to see new pieces
-mix with everyday neutral papers, as adding just one neutral often gives it an all-purpose feel!
Peace by Beth Ervin. Supplies here. Photo: SXCBy doing a bit of thinking outside the box, you’ll find yourself using your digital holiday kits throughout the year!
