from CottageArts.net

(Using Microsoft® Windows XP/Vista and WinZip 8.1)

When you start downloading many Simply Digital™ Download Paks, it can become a challenge to find the graphics you are looking for, if they are not organized.

Here are some tips for organizing your files with Windows XP/Vista to make for easy retrieval. This will make your digital scrapping even more fun and efficient!

First, it’s a good idea to create a “Downloads” folder in your “My Pictures” directory. I created this folder by clicking on My Pictures and selecting File>New Folder.

There are an infinite number of ways to arrange your files, but here are three recommended options to help you keep your downloads organized.

Method 1:

Organize by Category

After downloading and unzipping your files, you can move them into different folders. Here, I’ve created folders in the “Downloads” folder for each category of downloads.

Method 2:

Organize by Download Pak (Page Kits)

After downloading your files and Unzipping them, you can move them into different folders.  Here, I’ve created folders in the “Downloads” folder for each page kit that I’ve downloaded.  Now, when I’m looking for an Americana paper, I know exactly where it is.

Method 3:

Organize by Theme

After downloading your files and Unzipping them, you can move them into different folders.  Here, I’ve created folders in the “Downloads” folder for each THEME of downloads.

So when I’m starting a Heritage layout, I know exactly where to look to find all my papers, elements, and templates for this theme.

Tip: You can use Windows Search function to find specific products you are looking for within folders, too, such as papers, or tags, or brads, as we try to name files consistently to allow for easy searching. Simply put the following in the file name field when searching for all of our papers: *paper* (include asterisks) and specify the Downloads folder for your search.

There is really no ‘wrong’ way to organize your files.  It is really just a matter of preference!
